Vegas Continues To Crash At An Insane Rate

I would say memory problems are possible. Not super likely, but it’s possible that in typical use, the OP never hits the faulty cell(s) outside of Vegas just based on the amount of memory being used. Memtest is a good one, as these things go these days. Might also see if there’s a memory test in the BIOS, which can test all RAM without using it – that can let the test stress things in different ways. Key is running these long enough to find a flaky cell, maybe just a chance of failure in normal use.

I am doubtful that memory is the problem, but it certainly can’t hurt to run memtest anyway. Memtest does test every memory cell with just about every possible combination of bit patterns. The program moves itself to other areas of RAM so that it can test the RAM where it was formerly located.

Steve, I appreciate your comment but I have recently come across two installations where Vegas was crashing and it only happened when accessing data from an external raid box. I have not been able to check whether the raid units were the same manufacture, but I will try. Just my cent’s worth.

It seems unlikely. I have accidentally turned off external drive docks and all Vegas does is complain that the media is offline.

It is not that Vegas cannot use external drives… it is just certain external NAS units. I notice a similar comment in the other Vegas forum. Anyway in the two instances I came across when the files were transferred to an internal drive and re-located, the problem stopped.

Thanks for all the input. Mostly more food for thought.
Don’t know how/where/set anything to do with the clock speed on the Q4000 card.
I’l try running that memtest overnight.
I can even try moving current project data files to internal drive and see what happens.
