    Hi All;

Sorry I’ve been away from the forums for so long – I need to look to see if there are any questions I can answer.

I’ve been away because I’ve been really digging into Color Correction after watching the Lynda tutorials. Although they are for Adobe Premier, a lot of the concepts apply to Vegas. I did not even know that Vegas had Vector and Waveform scopes! BuwaaHa Haaa!

Naturally, I’ve been using the Color Corrector (Secondary). Although I can get it work, there is a maddening problem. The problem affects both my computers, one XP Pro SP3 running 32-bit versions of SVP 9 and 10, and also my Win7 Pro system with 64-bit SVP 10e build 738. I’ve already tried all the easy stuff like re-installing.

    From the help file:

Choose the color you want to adjust
The plug-in works by allowing you to adjust a selected color. If you don’t select a color, the plug-in will affect all colors in your video.

Position your cursor on the frame you want to adjust in the Vegas timeline.

Select the Select effect range eyedropper tool .

(tip) Drag to create a rectangular selection to select a range of color.

Click a portion of the image in the Vegas Video Preview window to sample a color. The luminance, saturation, and hue controls in the plug-in are updated to reflect the sampled color.

If you want to see the portion of the image you sampled, select the Show Mask check box. The selected area is displayed in white.

When I click and drag, there is no rectangular section outlined – I’ve watched tutorials and the rectangle is a typical box that grows from the upper left corner to the lower right. However, I know the tool is selecting colors in the range that would be inside the box – it is as if the box’s dotted outline is invisible. If I tick the Mask checkbox, the image highlights in white match what I’ve selected in the invisible box.

Can you people please test this, tell me if anyone else has the problem?

My video cards in both computers are Nivida, in this Win7 computer it is a Quadro FX 570. The drivers are up to date.

    Thanks!

    Steve

That’s because it is invisible 🙂
For some unknown reason, Sony changed the way the tool works to the current method back in, as I recall, Pro 9.
Keep doing things the way you are and you’ll be fine.
BTW, it works the same way (no box) in the chroma keyer too 🙁

That’s because it’s not a box anymore. You should drag the eyedropper in any pattern over the colors you want to sample and Vegas will average them. (e.g., it could be a circle or a squiggly line or any pattern)

    Thanks John!!
It never occurred to me to drag it out in any shape I want.

Yea, it’s more like “follow the path”. So if you are selecting a green screen, you might trace around the edge of the person to get all of the shades green that’s around them.

    Mike cracked me up! LOL

Thanks, guys, it is good to know I am not crazy – or at least not in this aspect 😉

John, just so I understand – does the eyedropper sample any pixel over which it passes while the left mouse key is pressed?

Is this documented anywhere – perhaps in SVP 11? (I’ve still not installed my copy yet)

Actually I looked it up and it still says:

Drag to create a rectangular selection to select a range of color.

So I must be thinking of the Boris Continuum Complete plug-ins because the BorisFX color picker will use the colors you trace over, but it looks like the Sony one is still using an invisible rectangle. 🙁

Sorry about that. But that is how the BCC Chroma Keyer color picker (and other BCC color pickers) work. I mostly reach for the BCC plug-ins in my work so I confused the two.

John, I’m so disappointed that I can’t draw any shape with the Sony tool 🙂

So get the Boris tools. 😉 BCC is an incredible collection of plug-ins that I use every day.

John,as much as I’d like to get Boris tools, my workplace isn’t going to pay for it and I wouldn’t use it often enough for personal use to justify the expense 🙁

That’s too bad. You know you can purchase Continuum Units and the purchase price can be used to eventually buy the whole collection. But I understand if your work doesn’t require it, it’s hard to justify.
