Vegas & codecs problem
Hi I have recently purchased a new PC with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed and I’m doing a project for school that is really grade heavy, meaning that I might not get my A if i don’t finish it in time, anyway here is the problem i need help solving:
As the mentioned OS installed and with the 32 bit and 64 K-lite codec pack installed on my PC still don’t show up when I want to render them in Vegas,
and I have NO .wmv codec(template as it says) so I can’t render it as that either.I have the same problem with After Effects but I still have Lagarith and Huffvuy working and I only render those too from AE but the big problem is that I need to compress them In Vegas as a finisher.
Recently something odd happen, I added several Huffvuy files into the
Video tracked and cut and edited etc. and then compressed them into a huge .mov file (I had no choice.), then later I could add them to the video track again!I’m in the desperate need of help!
Summary:
Vegas doesn’t find any codecs, K-lite 64 & 32 bit installed, no .wmv template available, and no Huffvuy in video track! 🙁 -

Never, ever, ever, install “codec paks” on a video editing workstation. It is almost guaranteed to mess you up (if Vegas doesn’t even have WMV templates, you have seriously messes things up already). Uninstall them and re-install Vegas. If they can’t be cleanly uninstalled try using a restore point and if that doesn’t work try reloading your PC with the recovery DVD. Then stay away from the codec paks and only install the codecs that you need for the video you will be editing.

Anyway, the computer is fairly new so I might do that, thank you so much for your response, I’ll uninstall everything before reformat.

I have reinstalled Vegas, uninstalled all codec packs and according too the program “Installed Codecs” I only have Microsoft codecs and some others left, no huffvuy or anything else…
The problem is that now when I look in the render list there are not even a .wmv option, is there a .wmv codec I can download that works with 32 bit vegas!?

Can you play WMV files outside of Vegas? The Windows Media Player 11 and WMV codec are part of Windows 7. It is always part of Vegas by default. If you install Windows 7 clean and then install Vegas you’ll have the WMV codec.
You might try uninstalling all of your Sony software, deleting all registry keys and removing all Sony folders on your hard drive, and then re-boot and re-install to see if that helps. If that doesn’t fix it, it really sounds like you might need to take your new PC back to the state it was in when you bought it by using whatever recovery DVD they gave you to restore the computer.

I just just noticed something, there is no Windows Media player on my machine!…
Thats odd, but I am doing this or now, I’m going to work with After Effects and render the files to Huffvuy, then move them over to my old Windows XP SP3 Pc with all the working codecs or a final render, I need all the time I can get for this project, I’ll report back in a few with a progress rapport!
Anyway, thank you for your help! Is there anyway to fund you or this site as to show my gratitude!?

That’ll do it. The bigger question is, how can you have a brand new Windows 7 machine and NOT have Windows Media Player? This is why I say that something is not right with this PC and you should format and start over (since it is so new to begin with). I certainly wouldn’t trust editing on it.
