I’m trying to render a wedding and the first half is about 1 hr 10min long, my bit-rate calculator said the bit is 8484. Once i set that I render the project to an MPEG folder and the render starts, 2:50 minutes into the render Vegas completely closes. I uninstalled Vegas and reinstalled it and it did the same thing. I’m running Windows Vista Home Premium and my computer is a Gateway and my operating system is 64-bit with a 750 gb drive. My processor is intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @2.50GHz so I have plenty of space to run Vegas.

8484, what? Is that 8.484 mb/sec? Could you have set this to 8484 mb/sec? Don’t know if you can set it to this, but worth checking.

    Grazie

#1. If you only have one hard drive, please get another one for all your editing needs.

#2. This sounds like it could be a heat issue.
When was the last time you blew out the dust bunnies?

    Allen

Is the whole PC shutting down or is it just Vegas? If it is the former, heat (or rather, too much of it) as Mike suggested is causing a system shutdown (as a self-preservation mechanism of the CPU).

You might also want to look in Windows Event viewer which may have captured an application shutdown or crash message that you missed.

Are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vegas?

What version of Vegas are you using?

    Intel i920, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 9 (X64), Vista x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S 4.1

I’m using Vegas Pro 8 and the only thing shutting down is Vegas, I cleaned out the dust about a week ago because I had to replace the internal disc loader. I do have an external hard drive and I use both for projects, I’m not sure what version of Vegas I’m using (32bit or 64bit).

[Allen King] “Sorry, no I put 8,484.”

For a 70 min. project, use a CBR setting of 8,000,000.
Make sure it’s set to Best mode for maximum quality.

When you said “replace the internal disc loader”, do you mean that you replaced the hard drive?

    If you’re using Pro 8, it’s 32-bit only.
8.1 was the first 64-bit version.

Even through you cleaned out the dust bunnies, you could still have a heat problem.
Download and run CoreTemp/ (it’s free and a great utility) and see what it says.
I had an issue a year or so ago because, unknown to me, the heatsink paste on my CPU had broken down and my renders were crashing part way through due to heat problems.
A fresh application of the good stuff and everything was back to normal 🙂

Allen, CoreTemp is strictly a CPU temperature monitor and, as such, can’t fix anything, only make you aware of heat issues.
