Every so often the audio in my Vegas projects (10c, 10e and 11) sounds like the audio is being recorded underwater when listening to it playing back on the timeline. This may last for several minutes during the edit and then all of a sudden it ‘pops’ back to normal, not unlike your ears equalising in an aircraft descent. When I go back to the parts of the previously submerged sounding events, all is normal. My projects are all HDV m2t files with no audio FX. Someone mentioned to me that Vegas has an audio auto-levelling/auto gain setting (normalise?) at track level, and if so, perhaps could that be the cause? Where is it? I have some very loud and soft sequences in my audio.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Go into Preferences under the Audio Device tab and make
some playback buffer adjustments etc. and see if that helps any.

Tried that. My audio track buffer is already disabled because Vegas crashes during scrubbing otherwise. Will have to do a bit of trial and error.

Cant figure out what else could be causing that issue.

That may be your problem right there. If you’ve turned off audio buffering, then what you are hearing is your computer not being able to keep up with the audio in real-time because it has no buffer. Especially since you said that you went back to that spot on the timeline and it played fine. Perhaps you need a new computer because having to turn off audio track buffering is not a good thing.

New computer? More like a better version of Vegas :-).

I think my system specs are pretty high end, considering. I had to disable the track buffering because Vegas was constantly crashing during simple scrubbing up and down the timeline. I came across a post here that suggested disabling track buffering and I can at least edit and deliver a product. If that is what is now causing Vegas to go ‘aquatic’ on me, it is a worthwhile trade-off. It does not appear to go into the final render out.

With the track buffering issue, the sound was going all squirrely in the render in SVP10 unless I disabled it.

I am now using the latest SVP 11 version and so far so good apart from the audio playback issue. It does not consistently happen, which is the curious part.

Maybe you just need a better audio device. What device do you have? I’m using an M-Audio Firewire 410 and I have no problems scrubbing the timeline with track buffering on. The fact remains, that something about your current computer setup is not right if you need to turn track buffering off.
