  • Vegas and scripts trying to access internet.

I’ve been dealing with this issue forever but I figured I’d finally ask here. Whenever Vegas starts up, it tries to access the internet. Specifically https://199.7.54.190/ I normally choose to deny it access through ZoneAlarm and it continues to boot up. Then when I run a script, like Excalibur, it tries to access the internet again, and when I deny it the ability (because why the hell would scripts need internet access?) Vegas just hangs for 10-20 seconds before continuing along.

Even simple scripts like selecting all clips on all tracks from the cursor forward will do this once, then won’t ask again after I’ve denied them access until the next time I start up Vegas. Does anyone know why Vegas would be trying to access the internet for such simple tasks or how I can disable this function? I can save settings in ZoneAlarm to automatically deny it each time, but then it’ll just hang for 10-20 seconds each time. Thanks for any insight into the matter.

Turn off NetNotify in your preferences. Then restart Vegas

I can tell you for a fact that Excalibur will NOT try to access the internet. There is zero code inside Excalibur that tries to access anything external to Vegas.

Yeah I figured as much, because I looked at the code for a small script I had and it certainly didn’t include anything about the internet. Also to Douglas, I already had Net Notify off. Call me paranoid but I just never liked programs sending or receiving data without my expressed written consent 😛

So it sounds like we’re not sure why vegas or scripts would be doing this. Since they seem to be using port 80 I assume no one’s firewalls are blocking them. Does anyone else have ZoneAlarm or other internet blocking programs and can verify that their versions of Vegas do this also? I’d be surprised if it was only mine.

One script that DOES access the internet is the Thought Equity script. However, it should ONLY do so when activated and definitely not on Vegas startup.

    dot-net?

    [Stephen Mann] “dot-net?”
You’re implying it has to do with the .NET framework that Vegas uses? I suppose that’s possible, but I still don’t see what purpose it serves for vegas to try to access verisign. I also determined the script access attempts are simply contacting my isp’s domain name server, as they contact verizon when I’m at the office and comcast when I’m at home. It all seems totally harmless and I’m sure everyone’s does it.

The .net framework has a function that verifies the validity of a file signed with an X.509 certificate. Verisign maintains the certificates database. I haven’t programmed in the .net framework, so I don’t know if it is run on load or if it has to be explicitly called.
