Vegas and GPU acceration
Posted by Earle Del rosario on August 18, 2011 at 6:01 amRE: The speed of PremierePro+NVIDIA .
When can you see Radeon making that happen with Vegas, and across the board (not having it be exclusive with just one software) ?

in future development for Vegas. I believe we will soon
have this for Vegas.Steve Rhoden

It’s already happened with Vegas Pro 10 which supports GPU acceleration of AVC rendering with Radeon via OpenCL
Once OpenCL is more widely adopted, you’ll see more of this across the board. NVIDIA and ATI went head to head in an API war and ATI Stream lost and NVIDIA CUDA won. In reality, it is us the consumer who lost if you bought an ATI card (which I assume you are one of). OpenCL can change this and Vegas has taken the first step by supporting OpenCL so that Radeon owners will get GPU acceleration with Vegas. There is no telling when other software companies will follow suite. You should certainly send emails to those companies asking them for OpenCL support like Sony Vegas.

August 19, 2011 at 9:00 amI said full integration….Presently its just GPU
acceleration of AVC rendering….Its not yet across the
board (like for previews, effects, transitions, renders etc).Steve Rhoden

That’s not how I interpreted the question. I thought the question was “When will Radeon be supported just like NVIDIA” and the answers is “it already is through OpenCL”. So Vegas Pro supports Radeon and Premiere Pro doesn’t.
