Hi guys I previously posted this https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/24/873509

I tried a bunch of different things from switching to firewire, preview in draft mode etc.

My last attempt was to use my brand new Quadcore and I get the same thing Vegas just closes on it’s own.

I’m kind of stuck right now as I can’t thing of anything else could be wrong.

Could it be the .veg itself that’s corrupt?

And anybody have good experience to edit video on an external HD?

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thank you.

I use an external drive all the time.

For a few years we connected our external drives via firewire with inconsistent results. Switched to USB2 and they work like a charm. Using them with Vegas 8 right now. We have 4 Maxtor 300Gb units.

Use 2 external HD (Seagate) one for video capture and one for rendering to. They connect either with firewire or USB2 and I have used both with equal success. I switch them back and forth between my desktop (Dell E510 2.6mhz 2 core 1G memory) and my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9100 3.2 Mhz HT 1G memory)and have not had any problems, even capturing live via DVRack to the EHD attached to laptop via USB2.

I think I know what the problem is. it’s when the cursor hit the still pictures Vegas crashes, freeze or disapear. This is very strange, I tried diffrent format, png jpeg and all do the same thing, sometimes I can see it crashing, instead of the actual pic in the timeline I have a red square replacing it.

I’ve never encountered something like that before.

If the pictures/graphics are very large, you might want to consider reducing them to not more than 2Kpixels in either dimension.

Set Dynamic Preview higher than it normally might be set.
Keep Preview at Preview/Auto, or smaller.

    This *should* help
