  • Vegas and Decklink – How well do they work together?

    Hello,

I’m a long time Vegas fan from version 1 days but the latest that I have on my home PC is version 4. Here at work we have a nice dual Pentium workhorse with a Decklink HD card in it and I’m using Premier Pro 1.5 for the editor. I downloaded the trial version of Vegas 6 a few months ago but it kept crashing while I did really simple tasks and my trial expired before I could test everything I wanted. I’m writing to find out if this was just a fluke for me or look for any suggestions on how to fix that.

I’m also wondering if anyone is using Decklink & Vegas for uncompressed high def projects, not just HDV but uncompressed HD footage captured over the Decklinks HS-SDI inputs. If so how do you like it in comparison to other edit programs?

I would really like to know that Vegas is stable and worth convincing my boss that I need it. I just find that the Adobe Premiere/Encore/Audition package isn’t as pleasant to use as the Vegas/Architect/SoundForge combo.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

Vegas 6 is stable but there have been some updates and I recommend you use the Vegas 6.0c updater.

Vegas 6 uses a specific version of our DeckLink Windows drivers and you will need to use the DeckLink 4.8.1 Windows drivers for compatibility. They work very well and are available from the software archives web page on our web site.

There are some Vegas fans in this forum and hopefully they will let you know what they think.

Will the 5.2 drivers work with Vegas?

    Hi,

Good question and the short answer is “no”.

The reason why you should use the DeckLink 4.8.1 drivers with Vegas 6 is that Sony have written specific support for our drivers in to Vegas and they based this upon the DeckLink 4.8.1 drivers. In order for Vegas to work with newer versions of the DeckLink drivers, Sony will need to add compatibility in to a future Vegas update.

which probably explains why Vegas crashed so much for me, I believe i was running 5.0 drivers at the time.
