April 15, 2010 at 2:34 am>>Then when I do a save as after having added captioning, Vegas saves a file with an SCC extension.
No, Vegas will not save a file with an SCC extension.
At present, the SCC file is created while rendering.>>This is horribly cumbersome if I’m understanding anything at all. It means about a dozen steps to add one sentence and then having done all that, there is no way to preview or see what I’ve done.
Cumbersome? Maybe. Please tell me one less cumbersome except spending
big bucks on CC service.How come a dozen steps to add one sentence?
First Step, listen to a piece of audio;
Second, create a command Marker at desired location;
Third, select or type command type 608CC1.
(You can save as template to save your future typing)
Fourth, type the sentence.
Fifth, click OK, that is it.To see what you’ve done, zoom in the timeline if necessary.
Playback the audio, you can easily check the text correctness and timing because the marker position is when the text to show, and
the text is displayed right beside the marker. If you just want to read through all the text for typos, do it in Edit Details.To do transcription and add timecode is always time-consuming, that
is why closed caption service costs about $6 per minute with accuracy about 95%.To make life easier, Vegas reuses existing closed caption data like
importing SCC file and scanning media file for CC. Vegas will import .SRT file and QuickTime caption file in the future.Vegas allows editing and adjusting timecode for CC to achieve 100% accuracy.
You are right, we need a training video for Closed Caption.

April 16, 2010 at 4:19 pmI did everything according to Vegas help; imported the .scc file and then ran the “Promote Media Closed Captioning” script. I printed the avi file to a tape, took it to master control (where we have a CC decoder) and there was nothing. Tried an outside tape that had CC and that was fine. Did i miss something?

April 16, 2010 at 6:21 pmYeah, you missed something. For this release, closed caption is
supported for HD Sony XDCAM MXF. It takes some time to extend
closed captioning support to other formats. Remember, 9.0d is
the first version to have closed captioning support. Thanks
for your patience. -

May 8, 2010 at 3:26 pmWorking my way thru the CC process with Vegas. I have an entire set of CAP files from standard def. I need to convert them to SCC files for Vegas. So far Ive only seen expensive software to do the conversion and this site but it doesnt take CAP files
.
https://vsync.tunezee.com/convertCaption.htmlAnyone got a magic bullet for this?

May 8, 2010 at 6:39 pmVegas future versions will likely input/output Closed Caption for following:
SRT – for Subtitle or YouTube Captioning,
QText – for QuickTime Captioning,
RealText – for Real Player Captioning,
SAMI – for Window Media Player Captioning,
In addition to input of .mcc file upon suggestion of MacCaption;If possible, please provide or refer us to the background of CAP:
Specification and sample. Then we will consider to directly input .cap files as Closed Captioning source in Vegas. -

May 9, 2010 at 3:07 amAfter some thought, I think you might be talking about Capture.
Line21 decode/encode support is under development. -

May 10, 2010 at 1:59 pmJust to be clear. I cave CAP files that were created for integration into standard def line 21 encoding. I am not interested in line 21 encoding. I am interested in SCC files for encoding CC in HD files using Vegas 9d. What I need to do is convert the CAP file into a SCC file. An anology would be a want to convert my WORD PERFECT document into a WORD document. I just want to convert the *.cap files into *.scc files. This has nothing to do with line 21 encoding. It has to do with file type conversion. Thanks – Mark

August 8, 2010 at 10:51 pmKarlton Wu or another expert can you answer some questions for me?
#1 Does all this work in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b or later?
#2 Is anything special required to render the final DVD with Closed Captions using DVD Architect Studio 4.5?
