Vegas 9b Renders Faster Than 10a
Using the trial of 10a, I rendered out a clip in the Sony AVC .mp4 “Internet 640×480-30p” template. The 1 minute clip took 1:39 to render.
Using the exact same render settings (I checked multiple times) and the exact same 1 minute clip, the rendering only took 1:18 in Vegas 9b.
I did the same test using an .mpg2 output and 9b took 50 seconds to render while 10a took 60 seconds.
This test was done on an HP xw8200, Dual 3.6 cpu with 3.5 gigs of ram. I realize this is an older machine, but the fact still stands. Vegas 9b can render faster than 10a when the circumstances are identical.
I once upgraded to 9e and noticed a slowdown in render times from 9e to 9b. I immediately reverted back to 9b because render time is everything in my workflow. I was hoping 10 would address this, but unless anyone has some insight, it apparently doesn’t.
I thought this was worth mentioning since most comparisons people will be making will be between 9e and 10.
Secondly – does anyone else rely on Network Rendering for their workflow? It appears Sony has done away with it in 10. We really can’t do our jobs without it in my department.
