Vegas 9, worth upgrading?
Posted by Bob Mark on June 24, 2009 at 9:20 pmI’m using Vegas 8 and saw the notice about upgrading to Vegas 9. Is it worth it? Thanks.

June 24, 2009 at 10:53 pmIf you are working in HD I’d say it’s definitely worth it. If you are still working in SD you would have to compare the features and see if there is enough there that you could benefit from. I think it’s worth it.

June 25, 2009 at 1:30 amHaving used 8 for the better part of 2 years I became somewhat comfortable in using it for my basic home video needs. I tried 9 for more than two weeks and in the end, uninstalled it and will remain with 8 until 10 comes out. It captured m2t off my HV20 just as 8 does. Other than the darker GUI I noticed little difference. One problem I has was rendering to mpeg4 and two pass mpeg2. Support said both were known issues. Again, my needs are pretty basic and even after a few years with it there is a whole lot within 8 that I haven’t even found yet I am sure. Just my two cents.

You are wrong there..Vegas Pro 9 is filled with a
long list of new features and functionality…The only
thing is that as a new release (as with all new releases)
, has a few kinks to smooth out….over time with gradual updates.Steve Rhoden

June 25, 2009 at 3:09 amI just made the transition to V Pro 9 and agree it does have a few kinks, as can be expected from a major update. I look forward to V Pro 9.0a… .
If I recall, the dark interface can be changed under ‘Preferences’ somewhere.

June 25, 2009 at 2:45 pmI upgraded to 9 Pro when it came out, and haven’t used it since. I’m sticking with 8 until they fix the problem I have with external firewire preview. It does have some new features though, but that’s entirely up to you if they’re worth it or not.
On my home PC I’ve switched over to 64 bit Windows 7, so I’m hoping they get 9a out soon just because everyone here has said the 64 bit 9 is a lot better than the 64 bit 8.1
