Vegas 9 hanging on add media
Hi Folks. I’m a beginner at this video editing stuff, and I trialled Movie Studio 9 and created a decent movie. I went skiing and have now purchased a copy and want to edit the skiing footage.
All works well, except when adding media. I’m adding all the footage and will then start to edit, but I have 1 final file that’s 308Mb that seems to hang the ‘add media file dialogue box’ when selected. Is it just taking a looong time to create the .SFK file (I presume these are a compressed version used by the app?) – how long should this take. The PC is a reasonable spec – about 3GHz, 2G ram, XP SP3.
The files are MP2 straight from a Sony on High Quality.

SFK files are just files contaning the waveform of your audio.
You can use GSpot to check wheter this special MPEG is different (corrupt?) from the others

GSpot looks useful, thanks. The file dialogue did eventually come back, but took about an hour!
Not sure if this is normal, but if it takes that long to load a few minute file, I’m not sure how useable Vegas is goign to be!

Martin, that is definitely not normal.
GSpot should take no more than 30 sec. to ID a clip.
I’d start by examining your computer for viruses, malware, etc. -
Sorry I was ambiguous! Vegas is taking 30mins for ‘some processing’ to finish when a file is selected in the ‘Add media’ dialogue. It does however finish. I’m not at that PC at the moment so can’t try GSpot.

Start a brand new Vegas project and try importing only the suspect clip.
If it still hangs, then the clip has somehow gotten corrupted.
