What’s up fellas, I recently purchased an HD PVR and recorded a few things with it from my xbox 360. The format the program (TotalMediaExtreme) used to record the footage to my computer was mp4. When I open Vegas up to edit the footage I have recorded, the program would not recognize the video. The audio was untouched and sounded amazing.

I’ve read around that converting the video to .wmv or .avi would be a possibility and I have tried it using Any video Converter, but the quality of the video after conversion just doesn’t compare to the raw footage file (not surprisingly).

I’m wondering if there is a codec I can dl that will fix the problem, find a different video converting program that won’t Maxwell Hammer my video quality, or if I have to find a completely different video editing program altogether.

    Any help is greatly appreciated
    -Chris

Hi Chris. I have the HD PVR and have been very successful capturing as .TS files and editing in Vegas Pro. Try installing the x264vfw codec and see if that helps. Otherwise try .TS capture. These recorded files are not optimal for editing, they are really meant only for playback but I find the .TS format easiest to work with.

Thanks for the info! Ran a quick 5 second trial clip, rendered it and uploaded it to Youtube and everything looks great!

    Thanks again!

    John Rafrano,

I tseems many of us have a common problem, it’s regarding which codecs to use and when to use a pack and when not to.

Although this is a forum without sticky topics, perhaps you could make a sticky topic at the top of the this forum with FAQs and links.

Some of the common threads seem to be about rendering, crashes and codecs.

I agree with you but I don’t believe this forums supports sticky posts. 🙁
