Vegas 8.0 Pro Rendering Problem
Posted by Jon Smith on July 13, 2009 at 8:18 pmI have rendered about 40 videos (to wmv files)over the past three months with no problems and all of a sudden, the last three videos I have tried to render (all to wmv)have all given me errors (undefined) and shut the program down. All three of these are different projects so it truly baffles me why there would be some issue now on my computer and I have not changed the program.
Any suggestions?

July 14, 2009 at 12:14 amI had the same problem today and after an hour of hard work, could find no solution. It seems to happen when having to render a project file multiple times because I rendered something in the project around 10 times. I ended up having to re-edit the video; which luckily did not require too much work. Thats why it is good to have a backup file somewhere when the project messes up. I’m not sure about a solution though; but you’re not the only one having that problem.

July 14, 2009 at 10:20 amJon, Does this project you have on the timeline now,
different from the others you rendered successfully…
like more filters or a file format you haven’t used before,
or a lot more splitting and pre-rendered footage being used?Steve Rhoden

July 14, 2009 at 4:10 pmSteve, I have noticed it is happening now that I am playing around with green screen and chroma keying for me. I basically have me or my son on a green screen, then a background video (not still) and some music over the top of the both of them.
I let it render again last night and here is the error I got (which usually happens around the 28%-35% mark in most of my videos.

July 14, 2009 at 4:27 pmIs the error at 28%-35% where the chroma keying comes in?
If it is, try pre-rendering the fx heavy parts of your
project to the DV format, and then drop them back on
the timeline with the rest, for your final render.Steve Rhoden

July 14, 2009 at 4:34 pmI had this problem before and this is how it was solved:
1. Delete all of the previous renderings of the same file.
2. If you do not want to delete them make sure they all have different names (Such as Johnny at the lake1, 2, 3 etc. OR Johnny green screen, Johnny green screen with Defocus effect etc.
If you are in doubt whether they were saved to a different file, make sure the new rendering has an original name.Hope this helps.

July 14, 2009 at 6:11 pmSteve.. First and foremost, thank you for all the time you spend helping people like me, it is truly appreciated.
I have seen some of your responses to other people about pre-rendering sections of the video. How do you do that? Is there something you have written to someone else in the past with directions on how to do this or is as simple as erasing the other parts of the timeline and then rendering what you have left? And you said to render to DV format? Are there any settings I need to keep in mind for that?

July 14, 2009 at 11:11 pmNothing complex Jon…When i say pre-render,what you can easily
do is draw a loop region (also double clicking on the part will
create a loop region) on the fx heavy parts of your project…
then you render that out, but remember when the render window
comes up to select render loop region. That way only
that which you have looped will be rendered….then delete the
looped regions from the timeline…..Then when you are
done, place the rendered parts back on the timeline…replacing
the deleted parts….then do your final render.lol….sounds long, but is so quick and simple.
And when i say DV, I mean to render out the looped regions
using the NTSC DV template.Steve Rhoden

July 15, 2009 at 6:46 amSony Vegas 8.0
I just finished a montage ive been working on for a while. and of course something goes wrong. When i go to render the video, either with Sony AVC, Windows Media Video V9, or MainConcept AVC i get a pop up that says no compatible video codec found. I am not very “Techy” but i am very good with video editing, and you can imagine my frusteration when my hard work is ruined.
Please help me by explaining what i can do/buy? to fix this problem.

July 15, 2009 at 5:18 pmIt sounds like you have a corrupt installation. All of those codecs should be available. I would re-install Vegas as a first step. Make sure you are using the latest Vegas Pro 8.0c update.
