    Hi –

I just installed Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition 8.0 on my PC and everything seems to work well expect for when I try to capture video and that sort of works, i.e., I can control my Sony HDR-HC3 camera using the software and when I am in the capture mode I can capture the video but I can

1-Be certain “Always Preview” is enabled in your capture prefs.
2-Your video card may not support overlay in all modes.

As far as Ulead vs VMS…I haven’t used Ulead’s latest other than a demo version, but the previous version was pretty weak, IMO. Very unstable. Now that Ulead no longer owns the software, and is instead owned by Intervideo using the Ulead name, it has suffered tremendously (again IMO). They’ve killed all the “pro” apps and kept only the consumer apps, which suggests an end of real development.

    Hi –

Thanks for the advice but there is no “Always Preview” in this version.

I have been able to view the video while in the capture mode using the DV mode and I can capture HD using Ulead. Needed to download the latest codecs and DirectX to make Ulead work.

I think that Ulead is now owned by Corel.

Corel owns Intervideo as well, but Intervideo runs the software division independently. At the end of the day, it’s semantics. Ulead/Intervideo/Corel aren’t dev’ing the product the way it was once being developed.

Under Options (in my Vegas Movie Studio Version 8), I have the choices of:
    ~Never Preview Video
    ~Smart Preview Video
    ~Always Preview Video

Are you not seeing these choices?

No I don’t seem to have the same toolbar as you. I do have Video Preview under View and it is checked.

it may be that your video card doesn’t support the overlay. If it’s a newer vid card, it would surprise me that it doesn’t, but that would be my next check point. Sorry I can’t be more help.

    Hi Douglas –

You must be quite the HDV & DV guru – seen you referred to on other Video Discussion Boards.

I have been working hard to understand what the problem is – I have installed Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum, and Movie Studio 8. I get a different error for those two. I now see that you are using 8 and not 8 platinum because for 8 I do see the same toolbar you have.

For 8 Platinum I can control the camera but don’t see any video

For 8 I can’t do anything – when I turn on the camera I get the following error message – The device “Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit Device’ could not be opened

For what it’s worth I too have Plat 8 and when I try to use the video capture I get an error message “Exception has occurred”.
I’m using Acer Crystal Eye webcam.

    Any help?
