What settings do I use to implement the alpha channel on a PhotoShop doc? I need to create a low 3rd bar gradiated left to right from 100% opaque to transparent.

I can create the bar in photoshop, with the associated gradiated alpha channel and save it as a targa and it works fine, but not when I save it as a PSD with alpha channel. What gives?

(btw, the vegas keyer recognizes the size and shape of the PSD lower 3rd bar and keys the bar over the video 720 x 80, but has no gradiated transparency.)

Simplest way I know is to put the gradated bar on an empty layer above the background. Turn off the visibility of the underlying layers. Save and drop onto the vegas timeline. You’re done. Transparency always comes up automatically for me, no fuss at all.

The one caveat is that “Maximize Compatibility” needs to be on in the photoshop prefs. This makes it so that the PSD shows up as-is, without having to flatten it.

OK. I had already tried all that. 5 mos later I figured out what I was doing wrong. I had added the transparency AFTER I imported the graphic into Vegas. Typically, when a change to a graphic is made in PhotoShop, even AFTER it has been imported to Vegas, the changes will be reflected in the imported graphic. Not so with changes to the transparency. If a graphic that has already been imported into Vegas needs the transparency touched up in PhotoShop, it is necessary to REPLACE (reload) the graphic in Vegas for the changes to take effect. This has been causing me some frustration for a very long time, but I am a very slow learner.
