I just finished my first project in Vegas 8. It is 01:50:56 long. The MPEG-2 file is 4.7 GB. I used this file in DVDA3 to make a single movie DVD. DVDA is saying the file is 5.4 GB. I have never had any trouble before making a DVD that is less than two hours, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong. Happy Thanksgiving, Jim

Well… first of all a recordable DVD will only hold about 4.37 Gig. For 1:50, the “default” presets will create a file that’s too large so you need to reduce the bitrate. I have a bitrate chart in Vol 1 #7 of my newsletters and there’s also many other bitrate calculators out there.

As for DVD Architect mis-reporting the size, that’s a common issue. I usually don’t worry about it too much if I KNOW the files are small enough.

    Edward,

I’m rendering again now with changes suggested in your article. Funny, I don’t remember having to change the defaults in Vegas 4 or 6. Thanks, Jim
