Vegas 8 and Red 4.1 “timeline cursor must be placed over…” Error
Hi,
I ordered Red and Blue and they are on back order, so while I wait, I thought I’d install the trial.
When I put a “Boris Red 4” Video FX on a clip, put the timeline cursor over the clip, then click on the big “Boris RED” graphic on the Video Event FX window, I get the following Error dialog…
“The Vegas Video timeline cursor must be placed over the Boris effect for the initial launch.”
… I’m pretty sure the timeline cursor is over the clip with the effect.
I can put a “Boris Red 4 Static” Media Generator on the timeline and pull up the Red application by clicking on the “Boris RED” graphic in the Video Media Generator, so Vegas is talking to RED.
What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure what steps you have exactly tried but see if following help:
1) Quit everything.
2) find BorisRED4.0.ini file on your system (should be in Windows
folder if Red was ever launched -

The Split Screen View button was activated. Once I de-activated it, I could get Red to work.
Maybe Boris could get a better error message, an FAQ item or knowledge base article somewhere that would make it easier to resolve in the future?
I know I’m going to forget this, do it again, and forget about the Split Screen thing 🙂

Hi Peter,
I have the same problem with Vegas Pro 8 and Boris Red 4.3. Part of your answer is missing from the webpage. There is no “split screen” view in 4.3. I have tried deleting the Boris ini file, but the problem remains.
Any ideas anyone?
