My goal is to create a new DVD with additional scenes.

Using Vegas, I imported video from a DVD directly onto my timeline and when I preview my footage with Vegas from the timeline, the quality looks great. When I render the video with my additions, I am choosing the MainConcept MPEG-2 codec and the DVD NTSC template. I then choose Custom and made sure the Video Rendering Quality was set to BEST.

When I then preview my new MPEG-2 file on my computer, the quality is horrible. Even my title slides look bad. There are artifacts throughout the video and I am not sure how to fix this or what could be causing the bad quality.

    Can someone help?

    Thanks

    Brett

What are you previewing on? Did you alter any bit-rates when rendering. Have you burnt the render to Dvd, if so is the quality still poor?

I am previewing it on my computer monitor. I have not touched any bit rates and the only custom choice I made was “best” quality. I have not produced the DVD yet because of the currently bad video quality.

    Thanks

Tell me if I’m reading this wrong, but you’re importing an MPEG-2 file from a DVD, making changes, then rendering it to a new MPEG-2 file? Anytime you render or recompress an already compressed file the quality is going to drop fast. Do you have access to the original footage?

I understand the point you are making about the recompression, but that does not explain the quality issues with my title slides. These are made right in Vegas, yet they show artifacts.

I am attaching just one slide portion so tell me if the quality is what you would have expected. I rendered this as BEST quality MPEG2 DVD NTSC template.

    Thanks
