Hello — I am having my first experiences with vegas 7. First off, I was having difficulty capturing footage (DV) using a ADS pyro link. So I ended up using XPs DV capture. Capture DV as a DV AVI I think it is native. Now I have the footage and created a project but when I drop the footage into the timeline I can see the video but no audio. I know there is audio because when I play it back in the media player it is there.

Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong here?

    Did you try already Ctrl+Shift+W?

What does that do? I am also having capture issues , I get a message telling me that MS Camera and DV device is not on.

If your footage is DV-avi, why not simply capturing in Vegas (FILE_CAPTURE) using firewire only?

Good question … I sat here wondering the same thing when I read it. The simple answer is that I did not have a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable just 4 – 4. Also, I have ADS Pyro link that I capture through. If it all works using the ADS, why wouldn’t it when I try through Vegas?

Since your footage is already DV-avi, there is no need to use any kind of convertor. Just connect your camera with your PC via a firewire cable. Most likely will that solve your problems

    Steve,

When I first started out with Vegas I also purchased the Pyro.
The price certainly looked good. To make a very long story short, After several weeks and two units later, I could never get the pyro to work correctly. Then I did some research and purchased a DataVideo Converter and it worked right out of the box. That was about 5 years ago and it’s still working great.

For now, just go ahead and capture directly from your DVcam to your computers firewire port using Vegas capture.
As for your problem with the audio, if you can see the audio waveform on the timeline but cannot hear it, then you need to go into Vegas Preferences and make sure that your computers soundcard is selected as the audio device.

    Regards,Rick.

As it turns out … it was a cable issue. Bought a new one and the camera connected directly works great! Thanks for all of your suggestions.

I usually work in final cut and avid but the price was right so I bought a copy for home. I have an additional question. Is there a way to display a clip, select in and out points, then drop that clip into the timeline?

Yes, open the clip in the trimmer, place the cursor at the right place in the timeline, make a selection in the trimmer and press A

We would ask that you not use bold tags added to your subject lines in the future, Steve.

With quite enough work to do already, it is a bummer to have to edit this whole thread’s subject lines and remove the tags from all these posts.
