In preview ir is working perfectly (native Panasonic DV codec) but, when I render it in the DV NTSC template the audio is out of sync with the video. Should I be using the Panasonic DV codec instead? If it is not that what else could cause that to happen?

    Native Panasonic DV codec??
Assuming you captured via firewire, no codec is involved (until render time, that is) as it’s a digital transfer from camcorder to computer.
Or is this footage from something else?

It is captured from a multiples of DV cams using the Panasonic Capture Codec as i understand is slightly compressed compared to uncompressed AVI
which are even more huge than panasonic DV codec. but, anyways that was the source was and yes via firewire.

    I’m confused here 🙁
By it’s very nature, DV is already compressed at 5:1 so why a different codec was used is beyond me.
Was this footage captured using Vegas? I’m guessing no but I’ll ask anyway. If no, how was it captured (i.e. what NLE)?

I captured with a program called WInDV and when i play the captured files with a media player all is fine there.( and I never had a problem with that before in many many captures) and then i put into the Vegas software I edit and all that and everything seems to be perfect there as well. Then when I got to render in NTSC DV template is where the audio sync problem arises. In other software I never had this problem but, this is bugging me about the Vegas software and trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. because the vegas software has some neat features.

Not sure what to suggest as I haven’t used WinDV. I find that VidCap, the Vegas capture app, has always worked for me.
I looked at the WinDV site. Is it possible that you’re choosing type-1 AVI files instead of type-2? Or is it the other way around? Hopefully someone else can answer this question.
