I’ve just found out that there is still no
way to access the attributes of text events
via scripting. I have to resize the fonts of
hundreds of text events (and maybe experiment
with colors too!). I have an editing program
with scripting capabilities (Vegas!), and I’ll
have to manually click each and every one of
them to do this. I could understand something
missing when scripting was just introduced in version 4,
but version 6?! What’s going on here?!?

    Yes, I’m annoyed.

There are a lot of things “under the hood” that prevent access to those pieces of information. I do believe it will eventually be there but was not surprised to see it was not in this version. I understand your frustration and I, too, would like to have access to those features.

My guess is that they are waiting to add scripting to the text because the text tool needs a major overhaul. It is now the weakest area in Vegas, and one of the oldest. It pales in comparison to the text generator found in competive NLEs.

I use Photoshop very often for text. Just yesterday on a project, I had change out font, color, edge FX, etc. I was able to make actions in PS to make this much easier. (I only had about 30 graphics to change).

Another program I’m learning and really getting into is Heroglyph. It works as a media generator within Vegas and version 2 has some very nice improvments. Instead of using Swish to make flash files, I’ve found I can do all the flying text even looking much nicer in Heroglyph.

So let’s hope Vegas 7 brings us a new text tool with scripting!

    Hey TD–

Re: Heroglyph 2 I’ve got the program too, but my learning curve is steep to begin with, let alone heroglyph’s — Since you are the quintessential traipser between platforms– for those of us less travelled– could you describe the key to getting your head around its interface? I know you’re busy but a rough and tumble tutorial and/or analysis of the breakout job that allowed you to go from just using heroglyph’s presets to ‘rolling your own’ would be greatly appreciated.

ps- didn’t get to go to NAB this year and missed your smilin face and subtle Scottish accent (:). “That’s Duncan, TIM Duncan.”

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I agree, the text media
generator in Vegas is ok, but could be better.
The Credit Roll generator is especially limited. Still,
this is no excuse for limiting the abilities of working
    with these objects via scripting.

I’m surprised that as of version 6 Vegas is still
    missing such basic scripting abilities.
    It’s a shame.
