I just tested V6 versus V4 render times and got some interesting results.
On an AMD 2.2GHz dual proc machine using the standard rendertest.veg file.
    V4 rendered in 3:20; V6 rendered in
2:20! That is about 30% faster which is great news.
Later on a single 2.8GHz pentium 4 with HT; V4 got a time of 1:32 but V6 clocked in at 2:05!!!!
Not what I expected after the earlier improvement.
    Any ideas or common experiences?
I thought that V6 was supposed to take advantage of HT technology and use it just like a dual proc but these tests indicate that is not the case.

So far, it seemd V6 uses dual processors much better than HT. Sony have said that they hope to improve this somewhat, but it seems the benefits of HT will remain less than dual processors.

Try adjusting the thread in Vegas 6 to 1 instead of 4. I did this on my overclocked P4 3.0GHz (OC’ed to a 3.6GHz) and got a slight improvement over Vegas 5 render times but I had to adjust the threads that Vegas 6 sees down to 1 thread.

Storm Crow…have you always been running an overclocked system?

Once I built this machine and figured out how to OC it and have it be stable, yes. It never crashes or anything and it is air cooled by 6 case fans and 1 Zalman. When I was having the problem you helped me with, it did not matter if I had it OC’ed or not, I still had the problem.

All renders were done in MPEG2 at best and with the video slider quality set to best. The default 6,000,000 max and 4,000,000 average.

    VEGAS 5 vs. VEGAS 6

    P4 2.4gHz with 1 gig or SDRam

    Vegas 5 – 02:03

    Vegas 6 – 02:05

    P4 3.0gHz OC’ed to a 3.6gHz with 1 gig XMS SDRam / 4 Threads Selected

    Vegas 5 – 01:20 ? See below

    Vegas 6 – 01:49

    P4 3.0gHz OC’ed to a 3.6gHz with 1 gig XMS SDRam / 1 Thread Selected

    Vegas 6 – 01:15

    P4 3.0gHz with 1 gig XMS SDRam / 4 Threads Selected

    Vegas 5 – 01:32 using 50 – 58% processor

    Vegas 6 – 01:42 using 100% processor
