    Hello,

I’ve got a Decklink HD Pro system I built, running Premiere Pro 1.5, and I’m thinking of trying Vegas 6 now that it “supports hd”. Has anyone seen this working??? I see from the forum that it is working at standard def resolution. My goal is to work with uncompressed HD and HDV footage on the same timeline with realtime playback through the Decklink HD Pro’s analog HD output, decklink hd with premiere can only playback uncompressed HD in real time (currently). Ideally, I’d bring in the HDV footage via firewire and the HDcam footage via HD-SDI uncompressed, and anytime anything needs rendering it would render out uncompressed so not to loose quality.

Any knowledge or experience you guys have got with this work flow would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Stewart

    Hi Stewart,

The DirectShow support in our drivers, upon which Vegas 6 relies, currently support uncompressed file formats. We want to add a range of compressed formats and hope to have something available soon. Unlike the Mac platform, it is usually necesary to license and purchase compressed codecs for use on Windows and this makes the use of compressed formats less attractive and more expensive. This is a shame and it would be nice if there were more compressed codecs from which to choose and that would be available to all applications rather than locked to a single application using some proprietary method.

In other words, you are not going to be able to mix HDV with uncompressed material in Vegas 6 in the immediate future but that would be a great feature and we hope to do something like that in the future.

Even if you use an intermediate codec like Cineform?

I second that. Some sort of compressed solution that can “take in anything” sdi, HDV, Panasonic varricam over firewire…..

I saw on the cineform website that Decklink HD card support was one of their NAB topics. Can anyone elaborate on this???
