vegas 5 trimmer
Posted by Howard Steiger on May 5, 2005 at 2:47 pmI have a need for this tool. When doing dual camera edits I find it confusing to have both tracks on the timeline so I want to be able to insert edit from the trimmer tool. I somehow dont seem to be able to get it to work right. How do you set an inpoint and an outpoint and then click it to the timeline? Thanks in advance

May 5, 2005 at 5:02 pmI do a lot of 2 – 4 camera work. Excalibur is great for this. The Ultimate S product is also good but I believe is limited to 2 cameras.
Either is definately worth the money given the time savings and quality of final output.
Just my opinion.

May 6, 2005 at 3:08 amWhen i do multi camera editing in vegas i first reduce all video tracks down ti 1/4 screen size with (Track Motion) once done i can work with up to 4 cameras on one screen.. then i align all my tracs( audio or video) to a commen event…a light fade..start of a sound etc…
then i just let it play and when i see a nassary cut i just Splice (s) i watch the whole show…without stoping…
after i start to delete all the crappy images…(getting rid of the Ugly fat)
once that is done i start to watch each camera carefully and slicing where i need to cut to a different camera…
with auto ripple turned off… i just delete the camera shots i don’t want…keeping the best stuff.after all that is done a tsart to reduce it all by removing all the dead air..etc…
when it is to my liking i just reset all the Track motions to normal..and Tada..a multi cam edit!! all in sync…and almost all cuts are in the best place they can be.!!
just modify here and there add a few fades.. graphics..and im done.!

May 6, 2005 at 3:18 amYes, that is one of the techniques mentioned in the article. Unfortunately it takes a lot of time to manually make those adjustments manually. That’s where Excalibur comes in handy – it automates the process to help make your editing faster. After using it for the last two years, I’d HATE to go back to the old manual process.

May 6, 2005 at 3:54 amYes — I agree. I’d hate to edit multicam without it. Excalibur’s multi-cam has been so impressive that Pinnacle, Canopus, and even Apple have copied from it.
If you saw Excalibur running with all the cameras mapped to keys, with the nice tally system — you’d understand. Also, if you saw how you can switch out cameras on the fly while even playing after running the wizard with the option to “add as takes” then you’d really, really understand. For me, it’s about my time and my time = money. I’ve paid for Excalibur over and over and over in the time it has saved me. It has so many tools, I’d say that you can pay for it in just one job.
But — you are correct in that you can do all the things Excalibur does for yourself. It just takes time.
BTW — Thanks Edward and Gary for listening to my wish lists. Excalibur 4 is my #1 “must have” for Vegas.
