Vegas 12 unpredictable freezes, audio dropouts
Posted by Steven J casey on December 17, 2012 at 11:30 pmI can’t find a pattern to a cause. Vegas 12 constantly freezes, requiring a ctrl-alt-del to shut it down. And if it’s not completely freezing, the audio drops out half the time. I made sure my audio driver is up to date and also about two months ago installed a new Quadro 4000, downloaded the latest driver for that as well. Any ideas on where to start looking?
thx

How much memory do you have the Dynamic RAM Preview set to? Try setting it to it’s default of 200.

December 19, 2012 at 4:29 pmThe last update to 12 helped with the audio dropouts but yesterday I had loads of crashing again. Unfortunately Sony has the worst support on the planet, so likely I’ll get a response from them in 2-3 weeks and it’ll be along the lines of “restart your computer and see if that helps.” Then it takes another 3 weeks to respond after that…

December 19, 2012 at 4:30 pmThanks John. I tried that but it seemed to actually get worse. Not sure what to try now other than go back to the previous version.

December 19, 2012 at 6:32 pmAnother update to the issue. Just now went to the file>save as menu, then tried to create a new folder from that window for my veg files. This action cause Vegas to crash/shut down.

December 19, 2012 at 8:03 pmThat’s too bad. Vegas Pro 12.0 is more stable for me with the Dynamic RAM Preview set to the default. I’m not sure what else to try; it’s really stable for me.

April 10, 2013 at 8:00 pmSteven, I have exactly the same problems!
When dragging any audio file into the timeline (either directly, or via the project media bin), it looks fine at the timeline, and plays well too, but rendering it to an ac3 file, Vegas crashed by the end of the rendering and when playing the ac3 file, lots of dropouts where the music is actually replaced by audio from previous scenes on the timeline!
On other occasions, even the audio file plays with errors from the timeline, and you can even see the dropouts as zero volume on the graphic view of the audio (inside the audio clip). How Vegas makes those dropouts, and why it replaces those dropouts with audio from previous scenes on the timeline, is a mystery…I had so many crashed (with error handler coming up) in Vegas 11, that I simply had to update to 12. Those hangup’s are now gone, but replaced with new ones (caused by adiou problems, that I never had before), and without any eror handler coming up at all. It simply freezes totally.
Why can’t Sony ever make a rock solid version? We don’t need more features. We need a stable piece of software!

April 11, 2013 at 8:00 pmFolks,
I just discovered thet Build 563 was released a few days ago. That seems to have solved most of my problems.
I cross my fingers, that it will last… 🙂br Dag Halvorsen, Norway
