I just purchased Vegas 12 and am, for the first time, working on a project shot entirely on P2 cards (I usually shoot everything on XDCAM). So, I now have a USB drive full of MXF files broken up into separate AUDIO, VIDEO, CLIP, ICON, VOICE & PROXY directories, etc.

Now, I can drag and drop the video and audio files separately onto the timeline from the USB drive and they play fine. But, I can’t figure out how to import them together, so the audio and video match. The Device Explorer is useless because it won’t allow me to select any files from my USB drive to be imported…it will allow me to browse the drive but it won’t allow me to see inside the VIDEO and AUDIO directories. So, does anyone know how I bring the files into the timeline so I can actually work with them??

Thanks so much for your help!

Just sorted out what the problem was…I had added specific names to the CONTENTS directories – ie: “CONTENTS – Wide shot”, etc. Vegas didn’t like that…you have to keep the directories titled the same way they came off the P2 card.

Problem solved…and I must say the MXF files work beautifully on the Vegas timeline…very smooth, even in highest rez.

Jonathan: Just wondering if you’ve experienced any issues with Vegas Pro 12 crashing at all when using P2 MXF files. One other user from the Sony forums and I are having problems with random crashes. We’re trying to figure out what gives.

Vegas does seem to handle the MXF files well, aside from the crashes obviously.

Yes, am actually sitting here cutting P2 MXF files right now…and it does crash…a LOT! I save every 5 minutes or so, just to be safe.

When it isn’t crashing Vegas handles the files fine…but, the crashing is highly irritating. It also seems to crash if I leave the Vegas window and go to my email, for instance.

This is definitely something Sony needs to fix.

They also need a more streamlined way of importing the files…b/c I lost all the original timecode when I brought them in. I had to line everything up by sight…not very fun!

Sorry to hear that, but also somewhat comforted to know that I’m not alone…

I too have gotten into the habit of hitting Ctrl + S every few seconds! 🙂

Here are a couple of threads from the Sony forums that deal with the crashing and P2 MXF files. Unfortunately, nobody has found a fix yet, but I’m going to be watching in hope of finding good news:

I’ll try to report back if I hear anything. Appreciate your quick reply!
