I have always been disappointed with the slow process of thumbnail creation in the media bins when using Sony Vegas 12, 11, 10….

I am not referring to the initial thumbnail creation, but the fact that the thumbnail have to be re-created every time I scroll with the slider on the right side of the media bin display window. The thumbnails also have to be re-created every time I change media bins and every time I scroll a media bin that is already open.

Interesting that the thumbnails do not have to be re-created when I switch from thumbnails view to details view and then back to thumbnails view.

My media bin is displayed in its own SamSung monitor with resolution set to 1440 x 900, with 9 thumbnails horz and 7 thumbnails vert, or 82 total when all have been built.

Can anyone confirm that this is normal? Can anyone suggest a fix or work around? Are the thumbnails stored on the system drive with all the other windows thumbnails? Or are they store in the Vegas temp files which is user assignable? Can I assign more disk space to thumbnail storage? I have a spare 126GB SSD installed that would word very well for that purpose.

    Help!

So.. this is the way your Sony Vegas performs, and all the other Sony Vegas users have the same performance regarding thumbnail creation? Is that correct?

I was seeing the same thing when I opened a project with lots of media (enough to scroll for several pages. When I had a smaller project opened initially I did not have that problem.

An interesting fact in all of this is that when you use the Explorer window to view your thumbnails, instead of the Project Media window, you get thumbnails that once created, stay created! You can scroll top to bottom and no problem with having to rebuild. So whats the difference?

BTW, using the Explorer window is a problem and caused crashes while I was experimenting. Also, no way to see timecode ins and outs in the Explorer view.
