Vegas 12, K-Lite Codec. AVI Files issue.
Hello, I’ve recorded gameplay with MSI afterburner. And I use Vegas 12 pro.
I also recently installed K-Lite codec, please don’t ask me why.
AVI files seem to render fine, apart from the most recent ones that I’ve recorded since installing the codek pack.
These new files were recorded with an older version of MSI afterburner. But I don’t see why that should be an issue.
The older files recorded with the latest version seem to work fine, it’s just these that have problems.
I have uninstalled the codec pack with revo and uninstalled vegas 12.
So basically, I need to know, has this awful K-lite pack caused permanent damage to my computer, which requires a format, or is it because of the older version of msi afterburner?
I need this footage, I really don’t want to delete it. And it plays fine if I just view the raw files. It just happens to be completely black in the preview window for vegas 12, and after when viewing the rendered clip.
Any help would be seriously appreciated! I don’t want to format until I get an SSD, and I’ll upgrade to windows 8.

K-Lite and other codec packs have been known to do irreparable damage requiring a reformat because they don’t always uninstall cleanly. You should never use them for a video editing computer.

Convert it to some other format outside of Vegas Pro. Use something live AviDemux to convert it to M-JPEG which will play nicely in Vegas.

Thanks, I saw this after I tried using a different video converter. I will now convert to Mp4 before importing into vegas. Another step, but it’ll do until I format my pc/upgrade to Windows 8/SSD.
