  • Vegas 12 – How to set Frame rate of Image Sequence Export

Posted by Adam Lieber on January 22, 2014 at 2:21 pm

    Hi all

I’m trying to export an image sequence of .dpx images for a colour grade at 25fps.

My project is set to 25p, 1920×1080 and when one exports an image sequence in Vegas 12 it doesn’t give the option to set frame rate but rather just says it is set to the ‘project frame rate’.

This is fine, only my exported image sequence according to the colourist is 24 fps.

How can one rectify this? I need to providehm with a 25p image sequence that matches my edit.

    Thanks
    Adam

Image sequences do not have a frame rate. They are not videos. They are just a collection of static images sequentially numbered.

When you import an image sequence into a video editor, then those images become frames in a video stream and adopt the frame rate of that video stream. So maybe your colourist mistakenly imported the sequence to 24fps.

I assume you used Render As, Image sequence and the DPX template?

    Thanks Norman

Completely right, it was their error.
All good – they claimed the meta data on the first frame was telling their system it was 24fps.

    all good now.

    thanks again.

yes, i think the post house was being difficult because i cut it in vegas.

i tend to mainly stick to premiere these days.
but vegas seems to be the only NLE suite that allows you to bypass cutting in frames – the function of cutting in milliseconds just saved me and being able to set a project to a musical tempo and snap to musical measures was invaluable.
and mostly being able to speed up and slow down footage visually by stretching or compressing a clip as opposed to entering a percentage.

great app – albeit the added export to pproj and import functions are incredibly buggy and inconsistent.

I too find this invaluable. Often I set video to music, and need transitions that happen exactly at a certain time. It usually will not be noticeable that an event has been stretched or squeezed in the time domain a bit.

I will loop a section around the spot in the music where I want the transition to happen. As it loops, I watch the waveform for a shape that is easy to recognize at the time-point I need, then split the event, click-drag it until it reaches the point in the music, and then click-drag the other portion of the split to re-join them at the correct point.

I’m sure there are better ways of doing it, but this has worked well for me.
