Yay! They added back the Sony AVC render templates for 1080p and 720p… which fixes an issue I was seeing with the Mainconcept AVC (mp4) render (random pixelation around certain transitions – almost like when Netflix drops the resolution on you when your internet slows)…

But has anyone noticed that the file size created from both new (old) Sony AVC render templates is the same? In fact, I’m getting a slightly larger file from the 720p as I am from the 1080p (using the default settings in those templates). Should it be?

Anyone else notice that pixelation problem with the Vegas 12 (build 486) Mainconcept AVC render template?

Hands down, the Sony AVC render offers the best result.
Never tried Mainconcept to notice any issues.

Internet 1080p template using Sony AVC renderer is glitched-buggy on some systems, it skips a lot of frames, that’s why the size is smaller than 720p which works nice. I’d recommend using CPU only if you run into this bug.

also, these Sony AVC templates are the first to properly support the GTX 6xx series for rendering with latest Nvidia drivers installed, but the new renderer is still beta, that’s why the rare bug working with the 1080p template, the first step in the good direction is the greatest step.

Sony’s AVC CODEC has always been constant bitrate. So the output file size is dependent only on that bitrate. It stands to reason that a 720p60 render would be about the same size as a 1080p30 or 1080i60 render per unit quality. But when you’re set for a specific bitrate, as the Sony CODECs are, that’s what predominates anyway, regardless of other video factors.

    Hi

I have just started testing Vegas Pro, started out using movie studio 64bit , so please excuse any stupid questions or observations. I am testing codecs for online streaming (vimeo). Over the last week I did some testing. I tried to follow online video’s,forums, dicussions and advice. I even ordered 2 Vegas books today – extreme I know.

    Fom my very limited testing:

Sony AVC codec seems to render darker than Quicktime even with the RGB/sRGB adjustment in Levels?

Quicktime 7 H.264 seems to give me overall better results and matches my preview better?

I am still getting artifacts on some parts after upload to vimeo. It could be the camera, although other sample video’s online seem amazing.

https://vimeo.com/65745419 (most video’s under my name in Vimeo are tests with Vegas)

I am using a Sony RX100 to record the video’s.

    Mark
