Vegas 12 and jittery MXF playback
Having an issue working with MXF HD material.
Not a problem importing but get jittery video on playback and rendering.
If I change the framerate in the project settings 1920×1080 60i to half pal. 12.500 it seems to lessen the issue but of course will not render like that….and wouldn’t want to. but leads me to believe this is framerate related.
could it be a drop frame issue? i’ve tried changing to progressive only…no impact.
never seen this before as Vegas seems to work with just about anything you throw at it.
no issues with same file in Avid and when playback on VLC the file is stable.
any advice welcome! -

Original media is HD 1920 x1080 60i.
Although it is likely up scaled or converted from pal. But the MXF file is NTSC HD 1920×1080.
It plays fine (0n vlc) until dropped into Vegas timeline or in Vegas preview— it jitters and shudders ESP when there is motion.
Obviously whatever I render to does the same thing.
And I am using the very latest Vegas pro 12 . -

I don’t understand? Either the original is one or the other? Please explain?
In any event, please say what your Project settings are? You’ve omitted this, and it will have a bearing on the results you are getting.

The MXF is always HD 1920×1018 60i
Sometimes it was created using NTSC HD 1920×1080 sometimes pal HD 1080i sometimes sd NTSC and sd pal…it’s a mix because material comes from all over the world.
But the MXF I am using is 1920x1080x32 framerate 29.970
Project settings as follows:
HD 1920×1080 60i 29.970fps
Upper field first (I tried progressive scan and no difference)
Output rotation: o degrees original
Framerate: 29.970
3d mode :off
Pixel format: 8bit
Full resolution rendering quality-good
Motion blur: Gaussian
Deinterlace method: blend fields(I tried changing this also..no luck)
Adjust source media to better match…is checked.Many thanks and let me know if you need anything else.

One other point when I view ‘codec information’ in vlc player it says: codec: MPEG-1/2 Video (mpgv)

Well that IS very similar to my own MXF output of my Canon XF300.

You’ve raised this CODEC thing as a possible issue, let’s get that out of the way – yes?
