  • Vegas 11 MP4 formats – Sony AVC renders with NO AUDIO / Mainconcept with wrong frame rate

Ok, this will probably lead to me having to reformat my computer completely if I can’t get this resolved.

About three months ago, I notice my Sony AVC which had ALWAYS worked before quit rendering audio. Picture was fine.

So I tried to use MainConcept AVC…sound was perfect but no matter what frame rate I set the render to, it always comes out to 15fps.

If there’s any solution other than a full reformat, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you so much.

Wow, I figured something was just wrong with my MainConcept plugin because I had it set to 24p. My footage was 24p. I guess it just didn’t make sense to uncheck it at the time.

Now that I have that fixed. Does anyone know why you can’t render CBR with CUDA processing? I have a CUDA enabled GTX 560 and I get the typical “unknown error.” VBR works fine. Guess it’s just a minor thing. Maybe just a Vegas bug.

I have noticed that the “unknown error” seems to trigger on higher bitrates. And these seems to be different for VBR vs. CBR, and maybe different for GPU vs. no GPU. I only got a few datapoints in Vegas 11, largely because a bunch of Main Concept presets I had (mostly MPEG-2, high bitrate, 4:2:0 color) just stopped working in Vegas 11.

MainConcept CODECs are, of course, private plug-ins. The Vegas 11 versions are obviously different, which is fine, but Sony did a poor job of qualifying them — there’s absolutely no way these should fail on any settings that worked for Vegas 10.

Despite the fact of these being plug-ins, there really should be a much better reporting system. Obviously the plug-in knows why it failed, but there’s no context passed back to Vegas. Even a simple log file would be better than nothing — better still a standard report format (something XML would be great) that Vegas can present to us for examination. I had to fix these totally by trial and error.

Yeah, its a strange occurrence. AND I still don’t know what to do about my SonyAVC Plugin. I guess now it doesn’t matter. I think the overall quality of the MC AVC Codec is way better. It just doesn’t make sense that it would just stop working. I haven’t installed any new codecs or anything. Oh well. No big thing. I can now take advantage of my CUDA processing and boy is it fast. I rendered a 1080p feature of 2 hours and 30 minutes in 45 minutes flat.

Thank both of you. that solved my issue as well. Made the same assumption & now knowing the result, am slapping my forehead.
