Vegas 10.c Crossfade Glitches, “red clip of death” and ‘some’ .avi files not working.

Our educational facility has just just upgraded to Windows 7 from XP, and at the same time have upgraded from Vegas 9.e to 10.c.
We would often have issues with Vegas 9 when using crossfades; the clips would sometimes ‘glitch’ whilst crossfading. Also, we occasionally get a ‘red clip of death’ in which the clip will stop playing for no obvious reason, and when you look at its Pan/Crop window it shows a solid red colour. All these issues are still present in Vegas 10.
And a new issue that has come up in the newest version of Vegas is that some .avi clips inexplicapbly won’t play, even though Vegas will play clips that seem to be of an exactly the same file format.
I am happy to give more extensive descrptions of these problems, I just feel right now that I am not the first person to have encountered them and thus someone will already know the answer to this!

Ryan, I updated from Pro 8 to Pro 10c and I occassionally get that same red screen in the pan/crop window and the clip freezes. Since it happens infrequently, I thought it must be me doing something by mistake that made it happen.
At this point it is annoying, and I don’t have any solution. Never saw it happen with Pro 8.
I’ve not had the cross fade issue you speak of.

I have never seen either issue, but you are describing a possible codec problem. Have you installed a codec-pack?
Also, media on the timeline are events, not clips.

AVI is just a container. It is perfectly normal for some AVI files to play and some not to because it’s the codec insider the AVI that determines if it can be played or not.
What codec do your AVI files use?
If you don’t know, right-click on one of the events and look at the Properties on the Media tab. It will be under Video format. For the ones that don’t play, you will need a tool like GSpot to determine the codec.
