    Hi again,

I am trying to test some HD footage that I am shooting. In Vegas 10, what are the project properties I should be using? I am shooting with the Sony HXR-MC2000U camcorder. I am going to test two modes…FH which is 17Mbps, and FX which is 24 Mbps. Will the settings be different. There are HDV and HD settings in the properties. Which ones am I using?

    Any help? Thanks

    Dan.

That camera shoots AVCHD in 4 different modes:

    HD-FH 1920 x 1080 @ 17Mbps
    HD-FX 1920 x 1080 @ 24Mbps
    HD-HQ 1440 x 1080 @ 9Mbps
    HD-LP 1440 x 1080 @ 5Mbps

Since you will only be using the FH & FX modes you should set your project to: HD 1080-60i (1920×1080, 29.970 fps)

If you ever use the HQ & LP modes you should set your project to: HDV 1080-60i (1440×1080, 29.970 fps)

    Thanks John…you guys are great.

One more question…when I then go into DVD Architect Pro 5.2, I am rendering the video at the same settings you mentioned for 16 X 9 on a standard DVD-R disc, correct? And the settings in DVD Architect would be what?

I know if I begin to do Blue Ray it will be different, but I’m taking baby steps right now.

For DVD authoring I would do all of the rendering in Vegas Pro. You want to render your video using Main Concept MPEG-2 with the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreeen video stream template. Then render your audio as Dolby Digital AC-3 with the same name as the video file (just with the .ac3 extension). When you drop these into DVD Architect they will be interpreted as one Video/Audio stream even though they are separate. Set your DVD Architect project up to be 16:9 and you should be all set.
