    Hi!

Ok, yessss I know this question comes a lot but in all the repost I’ve checked nobody seemed to answer that question?!

My question is: When I create a form of whatever in Illustrator 10, I save it has an Illustrator 8 file and make sure that Edit-> Preference-> Files and Clipboard-> Preserve Paths is checked. Afterrrr that, I go in After Effects, add Zaxwerks Invigorator effect, Open Illustrator file, but they are still saying “No usuable Vector Paths in this file…” Why?! What did I do wrong?! I’ve tryed a million things, nothing seems to work. My second question is, what are outlines (when I create a text) and how do I add them?! I can’t stand any longer please someone helppp me 😀

    Thx a lot guys!

Just trying to beat John to the punch … 😉

After you create the text in AI, you need to select type>create outlines, if I’m not mistaken. This will convert the text from editable text to graphics. You should save a copy of the AI file before you do that, because afterward you won’t be able to edit the text as text.

Search the AI help for “outlines” for more info.

    Hi,

What is your Invigorator version? I am asking because you don’t need to save to ai version 8 since a long time ago.

Make sure that you add a stroke and/or a fill to your artwork. If it has none It won’t work in Invigorator and you will get the “No usuable Vector Paths in this file” warning.

For text Steve answered your question.

    Salut.

ya its because of the create outlines, i had the same prob when i first started… also make sure you group it or un group it depending on weather or not you plan to do any animations to the individuals parts

With Invigorator 4.0.6, you can select individual letters rather than the whole word being selected when you click on one letter. Now, the question is does this work with ai files grouped?

    Hi,

When working with text that is not created in Invigorator you could either use the Release to layers command in Illustrator and check Open as layers in the Invigorator import window or leave your text grouped and check “Dismantle Incoming Groups”.
Your letters must of course be assigned to different sets in the Set-Up window so you can animate them separately.

    Salut.

I just found the ability to create outlines from text directly in the AE timeline window this week. COOL! I don’t have Illustrator at home.
