vector paths in photoshop

Make your selection. Under the window pull down menu, bring up the paths palette. Go to the pull down menu to the right of the palette and go to Make Work Path. Select a tolerance value (the smaller the value, the more points on the path) and hit OK. You have a path.
If your going to use this path for print as a clipping path or in Illustrator, I’d suggest a tolerance no smaller than 1.5. Anything smaller will usually give an imagesetter problems.

Lower tolerance = more detail (which you may not want if the selection is jaggy).
Then double click the work path to give it a name and save it.
