VCR with Firewire output?
Does such an item exist?
Someone mentioned getting 1 in another forum but gave no makes or models.I want to convert VHS to DV for better preservation.
Then be able to edit or Dub straight to DVD.Am I on the right track?
Neither of my cameras have AV analog pass thru.
I already use my camera to feed my NTSC preview monitor.
From what I’ve read I’ll be better off with a Canopus ADVC300.
That will give me lots of flexibility and a TBC.Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Mitsubishi HD VHS player/recorder that has firewire but I doubt that anything that was analog only (VHS decks) would have a digital port (firewire). You are probably stuck with and intermediate device such as the Canopus.

afaik there’s NO consumer vcr/dvd with firewire OUT. they might have in, but certainly not out. just think, you’d be able to copy hollywood movies cleanly – oh you naughty boy!

I own a JVC SR-VS20U that will output via firewire from a VHS/SVHS videocassette. It is a dual-well dubbing machine that was built to transfer VHS/SVHS to mini-DV and vice versa directly, thus bypassing cabling and offering a better transfer. If I set it up to dub from mini-DV to the VHS side and just play back a VHS/SVHS tape, it sends out the signal via firewire as well as via the analog outputs. Now the buttons may need a little massaging to get this signal output function to work via Firewire, but with a little fooling around, if it does not immediatley work it eventually will !!
