I read on a blog about VC-2.1 coming out for the remaining HD-DVD supporting studios.

    Anything you can share Ben?

The person talked about a massive improvement saying that 36mbps encoded video was down to 18mbps without any degradation on the updated codec.

    Do you have a link?

Maybe they’re talking about the forthcoming 2.1 version of CineVision PSE? It’s not a new codec, but the next wave of improved implementations of VC-1.

Neither CineVision PSE or VC-1 is HD DVD specific, FWIW – it’s also fully compatible with Blu-ray.

I can’t find it now, but I’m pretty sure it was in a comment somewhere on engadgethd.com

I posted something about this at the AVS HD-DVD Software forum and a moderator promptly deleted it.
