  VC-1 compression for screen recording

  So, Silverlight doesn’t support the old Windows Media Screen video codecs. There’s been some concerns about how to encode screen recording content for Silverlight. My take is that for modern GUIs, VC-1 is actually a better codec than the older screen codecs which were really tuned for Windows 2000/XP style interfaces with lots of flat color.

  So, here’s a full-blown tutorial on how got get 350 Kbps screen recordings via Expression Encoder 2.0 and VC-1. It’s a real-world project of several hours of IIS7 training, the final results of which are posted at the bottom. Plus it’s a little preview of Expression Encoder 2 (currently in public beta!) and the VC-1 Encoder SDK.
