Posted by Chris Siers on August 23, 2011 at 3:49 amI’ve just bought and downloaded Ultimate Pro S and other software from VASST. I keep getting error message that I cannot open the file because it cannot find a copy of Vegas. I’m using Vegas Pro 10 E. I can’t find any help files on the VASST website. any suggestions please?

August 23, 2011 at 6:32 amTry uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas if you can. I had this happen once (with other plugins) and doing that uninstall/reinstall fixed it.
If not, this might be a question for someone from VASST like John Rofrano.

What “other software”? Our Freeware plug-in installers haven’t been updated for Vegas Pro 10 yet so they will give an error. Ultimate S Pro 4.1.7 is the latest version and should install fine with Vegas Pro 10 as do all of our other paid for plug-ins. You can find the latest versions on the Downloads page on the VASST web site.

August 23, 2011 at 9:24 pmThanks for the advice.
If I uninstall/reinstall, will my upgrade download work. I’ve used Vegas since vegas6, but as I upgrade each version, I remove the previous. From memory, when you install an upgrade, it generally looks for a previous versionThe VASST programs I got last week are Scattershot 3D (which is the one need more than the others at the moment), Ultimate S Pro, DVDPrep, CopyWriter and PIP Selector

I’ve never had a Sony upgrade look for a previous version but I get them directly from Sony where they check your previous license key before issuing you a new one to make sure that you qualify. if you buy a Vegas upgrade from somewhere else, it is quite possible that it may look for a previously installed version to check. It all depends on how you upgraded.

ScatterShot3D and Ultimate S Pro work with Vegas Pro 10.
DVDPrep, CopyWriter, and PIP Selector will not install with Vegas Pro 10 but they are not needed if you bought Ultimate S Pro as Ultimate S Pro has all of that functionality built in and a whole lot more so don’t even bother installing them.

August 24, 2011 at 4:07 amThanks John,
I’ve always bought and downloaded from the Sony site, but I’m certain that the upgraded version looks for an older version (I might be wrong).
I understand now that I needn’t install the 3 freebies. I’m still faced with the original problem of installing Ultimate. When I press the .exe button I am told that it cannot find a copy of vegas, so therefore will not install.
For your information, Vegas, and all my video files are installed on another drive (not C). Could that effect the installation ? -

When you launch the installer, does it say Ultimate S pro 4.1.7? Earlier versions may not recognize Vegas Pro 10 because Ultimate S Pro 4.0 existed before Vegas Pro 10 did. I believe that Vegas Pro 10 support was added in the 4.1.3 installer.

It shouldn’t matter. We are looking for the install location in the Windows registry. It doesn’t matter where it’s installed as long as there is a Sony registry entry for it.
I’d recommend that you send an email to ultimatesupport [at] vasst (dot) com so that we can personally help you and try a few things.
