VASST Film Look software
Hey guys,
I know this has been posted about quite a bit before, but I’m wondering whether I should get one of the VASST film look volumes. I’m pretty pleased with how Vegas 9 can produce a film look using only contrast, color saturation, and color curves, but wonder if I’m missing out by not having the VASST software.
I’ve seen a lot of “film look” footage on Youtube and think a lot of it is way over corrected, kind of like all the CSI shows. I know a lot of people love those shows and go for that, but I’m not a fan and don’t like things looking so glossy (CSI: Miami) or metallic (CSI: New York).
This is mostly for events I shoot in which I don’t have much or any control about the setting or lights, so I partly want this because I love the look of film and almost always shoot in 24 fps, and partly because I want to bring out blacks, bring down highlights, and bring out contrast and colors.
Here’s an example of something I just did that I adjusted using only Vegas plugins, mainly color curves, to get a film look.

Investing in a better camera and lenses would be the other step, but film look software is a lot cheaper.
Should I get VASST? Will it even work with Vegas 9 (I’ll upgrade to 11 when that comes out)? Will I notice an improvement over using Vegas plugins like color curves?
