VARIPAL
Posted by Sergio Deustua on February 5, 2008 at 11:04 amHello,
I have search in the forum archives and theres a lot of discuision about this but I haven´t find my answer yet.
My situation:
– Im in Pal region
-Material shooted in varicam in 25fps.
-1200A deck
-Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme conected to my PowerMac via PCMCIA.What I need is to capture the material and work in 25 fps. I have tried many Easy Set up combinations but none of the work.
Can somebody give some advice about this.
Thanks a lot.Jeremy Garchow replied 18 years, 3 months ago 4 Members · 13 Replies -

Is your deck set up correctly for 720/25? You need to change the frame rate on the deck itself for 25 playback.

February 5, 2008 at 1:28 pmFirst I have set the deck to 25 HD. With that I have managed to capture in 1080i50, but can´t capture 720p25.
FCP has this Easy Set up setting wich I think is the one I need: Blackmagic HDTV 720 p 25 Varicam. But I can not capture nothing with this setting yet.I have tried also to set the deck in 50i/25p frequency, but in this case the deck itself shows an error message and does not playback anything from the tape.
So, the question again is: does FCP can capture 720p25 from material shooted with Varicam at 25fps? and, if this is posible, how can I do it?
Thanks

February 5, 2008 at 3:33 pmI bet your deck in 1080i mode in one or place or another. Dig through more of the menus and make sure you find the one that says 720p out -> 1080i. Change the 1080i to 720p.
I will look at a manual to get the proper menu number. It’s towards the end in the ‘Video’ settings.

**Edit**
Quit FCP before you do any of this.
First make sure menu 020 is set for 720p then powercycle the deck. If it already is then:
It’s menu number 632 720p->HD OUT. Make sure you set it to 720p.

February 5, 2008 at 4:57 pmHi Jeremy,
The problem is the following:
If my deck is set up as 25 HD or 50i/25p frequency, then both menus 020 and 632 are disabled, they just don´t apear in the menu list. They only apear if the deck is set up with frequency 59/60. The onclusion I supose: there is no available 720p output if the deck is set up to 25fps.
Hope I´m missing something because I realy need to capture 720p25 from Varicam.
I trust the “HDTV 720 p 25 Varicam” FCP Easy Set Up is real.Does anybody have ever cature 720p25 from Varicam?

February 5, 2008 at 5:03 pmI could be wrong but I think you have to put the deck in 59/60.
Actually I am sure of it. You have a 25p/60 tape if shot on a Varicam so you have to put the deck in 50/60. This assumes that the camera was in 60 mode and not 59.94.

February 5, 2008 at 5:34 pmShoot, I think I am wrong about this. It’s the 1400 deck than can output 25p. What you need to do is capture @ 60p then use the FRC to convert to 25p, or capture @ 1080.
There’s also a Varicam forum. I bet a quick search will bring up what you need.

February 6, 2008 at 9:18 amThanks Jeremy,
I did what that last post says, but it doesn´t work for me. If the deck is set to 59/60, and the FCP to 25, there is no way to comunicate them (for me at least).
