I’m looking into buying a used Varicam and have found there are several sub models of the AJ-HD27. There is the F, H and the VP. I would really appreciate If someone could steer me in the right direction as to what the differences are.

The 27V was the original one..
more of a traditional video camera without the film gammas.

    The 27F – second generation…
some early 27V were upgraded to 27F

The 27H – if you are buying a traditional tape based varicam
this is the one to get…. try to pick the a more recent
manufacture date… you can tell by serial number
the first few characters will be a letter and 2 numbers.

for example B06 – That would be February 2006

The newer the camera and the lower the hours… the better..

But… Panasonic just announced a special price on a
    P2 based 2700 Varicam… 19,950? with trade in..
This would be the best option..

all the features of a traditional Varicam – plus 10-Bit
    AVC-Intra recording….

contact the guys at https://www.MCCOM.TV – they have units in stock..
They may also have used Tape Varicams also…

We sold all our tape based – and bought 2700’s and 3700’s

    Good luck..

    Gary…

Thanks Gary. Very concise and informative. I actually got through the entire post before my ADD kicked in.
