    Hiya all,

I’ve been trying to get a proper understanding of the workflow I should consider here.

I’m looking at doing some commercials using varicam for some nice slow motion effects. I am delivering SD pal.
I would like to edit in DVCproHD for grading etc and downconvert at the end.

My question is, how do I manage 50p or 60p footage in a 25p timeline for slow mo?
Is it a case of the deck settings when I output from a panasonic deck 1200 or 1400 and come in through firewire?

Or do I need to go SDI in (blackmagic card) with DVCproHD codec chosen?

I’m just not clear on the appropriate workflow for slow motion footage in 25p timeline. Everything I have read talks about 24p.

    Thanks in advance…

[seamus] “My question is, how do I manage 50p or 60p footage in a 25p timeline for slow mo?”

The Frame Rate Converter in FCP only works on the non interger frame rates- so you would need to shoot at 23.98 and then convert to 25 in CT. IT DOES NOT WORK in 25p/50i.

“Or do I need to go SDI in (blackmagic card) with DVCproHD codec chosen?”

That may work, I have personal issues with the way BMD captures the VFR content, and I have not been able to get it to work consistently when capturing offspeed footage.

I have no issues correctly capturing offspeed footage (as 23.98 or at 25) via HDSDI with kona cards, so I use them exclusively.
