    Ok,
I’m hearing a few mixed signals in PAL land in regards to DVCproHD varicam capture into FCP for PAL 25 fps editing.
I am running latest FCP with Blackmagic HD extreme card.
I potentially have a varicam project coming in. (Shot for slo mo)

    My questions are this…

Using the Panasonic AJ-HD1200A. Is is possible to aquire footage via firewire and edit in 25fps (PAL)?
I have found some evidence on the net that this is not currently supported? can anyone elaberate on this?

Would I have to aquire via HDSDI through the blackmagic card to edit this job. I would want to avoid this if possible for drive space issues. But if I had to go down this route I would have to go an offline/online route to manage so many rushes. This concerns me, with my limited experience with variable frame rates I would be scared of online being a nightmare.

Any thoughts from the PAL people out there? thankyou!

According to the tech specs on apple’s site, this is supported in 5.1.2…

Yes you can edit 720p25 in the current versions of FCP and yes the 1200a deck can down-convert to SD PAL at 25/50i— remember that the output format is still 720p50 for output

there is not support for the offspeed footage via the Software FRC in Final Cut for 720p25/50

ok, so this would mean any varicam footage needs to come in via HDSDI? Rather than firewire?

    cheers
