varicam movie…..still can’t get footage downconverted
I’ve tried what you said Simon and still haven’t gotten it to work. when i change the output settings on the 1200A it doesn’t seem to do anything, sometimes the video signal just scrambles. however i am not a skilled video engineer by any stretch of the imagination. and i’m completely new to the HD world. anyway, i also can’t get FCP to see the 1200A whenever i switch the ‘set up’ settings and capture settings to DVCPRO HD 720p24. it just never works for some reason. even if i could though, i still don’t have enough drive space. i’m limited to 1 500G FW drive. and that’s not enough for my almost 40 hours of footage, i did the calculations. i have to somehow get this footage onto a 500GB, by downconverting into the FCP system and not doing dubs. is this even possible?

If using FCP 4.5, be sure DVCPRO HD components are installed.
DV compression not worth it… stick to 720 24p (40mbs vs 25mbs for DV).
Buy another firewire drive… they are cheap.

JUst a thought, did you download the QUICKTIME PLUGINS?
the deck doesn’t work by default, you have to add the QT components to get FCP to see the deck.GO to the 1200a support page.install them then restart both the computer and the deck— in that order.
