Will An AJHD1200 with a firewire card down convet to sd dv through the firewire? An d for extra credit–will an avid newscutter Xp control the deck via the 9 pin 422 cable?

Yes. It can also down convert to DVCPRO 50.

How the 1200A deck functions has no consequence on which editing system you work on, as long as your avid systems is set correctly for the acquisition over FW or if you choose to use the SD – SDI port (if available)_ on the deck and capture direct into your NLE.

Thanks Gary. Does the 1400 do a HD SDI to SD SDI down convert or do you need an “external Box”?

the 1400 deck has no options so can do everything you need including assemble and insert edits, unlike the 1200 deck needs the HDSDI boards for the up and down conversions.
