    Hi,

One of our clients had 60fps Varicam footage which they took outside to be upres’d to 1080/25i. The conversion has only changed the frame size and the clips have been laid onto new tape frame for frame so that the shots look lovely and slow-mo.

I can’t believe my FCP with Kona 3 couldn’t have done the same thing, though! Can anyone prove me right? It’s just that when I’ve taken the footage – captured at 720/60p from the Kona – and put it in a 25fps timeline the render compensates for the speed difference so it’s not slow-mo and, to be honest, the render doesn’t look that good – too much anti-aliasing regardless of timeline settings. So I’m thinking that changing the speed of the clip won’t be great…

I think Cinema Tools is my way forward in order to just change the fps flag in each shot to 25….?

    Thanks!

    Todd.

You would have to confrom the 60Hz material to 25.0. Then bring that in to your 1080i25 timeline.

I take it the Varicam was was running @ 60.0 Hz and not 59.94?

    Thanks Jeremy,

It was shot at 60fps. So it’s actually a setting on the VTR? The system frequency and all that?

    On the camera and VTR.

    Yes.

By the way, it’s okay if your camera was in 59.94. You would just capture 59.94 and conform to 25.0
